What is it?
This java (v1.5) program allows you to send games directly to an old apple // computer with no need for floppies, only a serial cable. This was inspired by the wonderful ADT project, except instead of transfering disks to the apple //, the goal is to eliminate the need of disks altogether -- eventually anyway (see status for details)
Note: The home for this project was moved from BerliOS to Sourceforge in the best interests of uptime and availability. The BerliOS site went down for quite a while duing the winter break in '06. Sourceforge also provides mirrors. You can find older releases at BerliOS for now, but considering the bug fixes and added features in 2.0, there's not much point in looking back at the old code.
This page will remain up for a long time, but all future releases and infomation will be updated at Sourceforge. I was reaching the point where version control and direct HTML page management were becoming necessary.
What is the point of this??!?
(I would like to argue that if you are asking this then you are not a geek, but feel free to read on either way :-)
Because emulators are neither perfect nor are they 100% accurate. Don't get me wrong, Kegs and Applewin are extremely close. But they're not cycle-accurate in every way. And, besides, once you have a serial-based loader you have the start of a light-weight OS. More on that later... ;-)
But the best reason why I did this is for the games. DUH!
Man, you have no idea how happy I was to see this screen again!
- Note: This program has a dependancy on the "rxtx" library, found at rxtx.org. Please visit that site for libraries relevant to your system if you're not using a windows machine. (and if you run this from a solaris machine you're stranger than I. But let me know how it goes.)
